Award-winning acoustic guitarist and vocalist Joy Louise is renowned for her heartfelt playing and dynamic stage presence, both as a soloist and as a band member, instrumentalist, and vocalist. A composer, instructor, and in-demand studio musician, Joy began singing to her Barbies at the age of 2, composing songs 6 years later, and started playing a pink guitar at the age of 10. By the tender age of 17, Joy had won all four top flatpicking contests in her native Southwest area. Now a seasoned veteran of the national bluegrass scene, Joy performs with her own bluegrass band, “The Joy Louise Band”, as well as being an active member of the Spectrum Bluegrass Band (opening for icons Stephen Stills, and Neil Young), and made her national debut appearance as a duo with GRAMMY nominated fiddler and vocalist Laura Orshaw (IBMA 2025), and has toured as a duo with National Flatpicking Champion Tyler Grant, and has most recently collaborated and toured with GRAMMY & IBMA awarding winning singer and musician Keith Little.
An amazing instructor, Joy has taught at top national workshops and music camps, including Augusta Heritage Bluegrass Week (2025-26), Summergrass Music Camp (2008-24), and the Walker Creek Music Camp (2024-25). Joy is also the acting director of the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival’s Kids Music Program, and regularly teaches workshops at the HuckFinn Jubilee and CBA’s South State 48. With many years of private teaching experience under her belt, Joy Louise is dedicated to sharing the art and emotional impact of traditional music with students of all ages across the world.
